Job/Position Summary:
This position is under the direct supervision of the Food Service Director or Executive Director. The individual in this position is responsible for the preparation, cooking and serving of meals. Assists the food service team with the receiving and storing of deliveries; places perishable items into refrigerator/freezer. Maintains kitchen equipment and cleanliness in accordance with sanitation and safe food handling procedures; assists with maintaining a positive physical and social environment for the residents.
Essential Functions:
· Prepares and preps meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) based upon menu, recipes and forecasted number of meals to be served per the resident census
· Assists the food service director with the receiving and storage of all deliveries
· Verifies accuracy of deliveries by comparing actual order received with purchase orders &/or delivery receipts. Notifies food service director of any discrepancies
· Places all perishable products in refrigerator / freezer
· Begins preparation and/or prepares current and future meals
· Adheres to all food handling and sanitary policies set forth by regulations
· Maintains inventory, stock supplies, and re-stocks as needed
· Facilitates team effort / involvement with kitchen staff and other departments
· Acknowledges residents, staff, visitors, etc. promptly and courteously creating a welcoming environment
· Prepares pick-up / delivery orders as requested utilizing meal delivery log
· Ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
· Completes paperwork in the absence of the food service director e.g. meal roster, special diets, managed risk agreements, substitution log, cooler temperatures etc.
· Ensures snacks are available to residents with special dietary needs
· Serves food to residents (as needed)
· Adheres to all procedures regarding infection control, food-borne illness prevention, harmful chemical handling, fire, safety and sanitation, properly addressing transgressions
· Maintains all kitchen equipment in a clean and safe manner
· Maintains the dishwasher by cleaning it regularly and ensuring that it is used correctly
· Cleans all equipment surfaces and work tables as you go, or by the completion of shift
· Keeps freezer and walk-in clean and organized
· Ability to maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA other federal, state and local standards and company attendance policies and procedures
· Ability to come to work and work the regular schedule and shift for the position
· Compliance with all personnel policies and procedures
· Perform related and other duties as assigned

· Wear uniform and name tag as to be easily identifiable to residents, families, visitors, vendors, etc.
· Demonstrate proper written, telephone and electronic communication courtesy and etiquette (i.e. promptly returning voicemails/emails)
· Promote teamwork among coworkers by helping without being asked, demonstrates flexibility by accepting reassignments
· Acknowledge residents, staff, visitors, etc. promptly and courteously creating a welcoming environment
· Use effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills with consideration to age appropriate issues
· Assess resident’s needs and initiates action to appropriate contact (i.e. resident care director, vendor, etc).
· Wash hands prior to and after resident contact
· Knock on door and identifies self prior to entering
· Document care given to the resident
· Maintain positive relationships with residents, families and physicians.
· Understand and follows safety and infection control policies and procedures. Provides oversight to ensure appropriate infection control procedures are followed by staff
· Ensure that all equipment is operational. Report to environmental services director all hazardous situations, including broken equipment, lights, damaged furniture, and similar unusual circumstances
· Comply with HIPAA regulations
· Attend all required in-services, department & staff meetings
· All other tasks as assigned by the supervisor
· Provides assistance to other departments as needed
· Assists with evacuation of residents in case of emergency
· Hours and days may change from week-to-week as needed.
Required Education and Experience
· Experience in food service, preparation and serving of food, particularly in a nursing home, hospital or assisted living facility
· Current Certified Food Safety Manager Certificate (preferred)
· H.S. education or G.E.D.
· Must be at least 18 years of age
· Must maintain state required continuing education

Possess general and basic math skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and the ability to read measurements.
